The first Asics shoes were made in 1949 by Japanese entrepreneur Kihachiro Onitsuka. His goal was to create quality shoes for athletes that would help them perform better. He used the Onitsuka Tiger logo on his shoes, which symbolized speed and strength. The logo became known worldwide when Olympic medalists like Abebe Bikila and Derek Clayton wore it.
