New Balance 1906

The brand New Balance was established in 1906 in Boston, a year that is reflected in the model name 1906. This low unisex sneaker combines the technical aesthetic of retro running shoes with durability for inclement weather. The gray design exudes a modest yet modern appeal, allowing you to seamlessly integrate these shoes into both urban outfits and more outdoor-oriented styles.

The upper featuring a GORE-TEX membrane is waterproof, ensuring your feet remain dry even in rain or on wet pavements. Instead of traditional laces, the shoes are equipped with a quick-lacing system that allows you to slip them on and tighten them in one motion. The Nlock technology helps secure the midfoot and heel firmly. The midsole with N-ergy cushioning absorbs impacts while walking, and the OrthoLite® insole adds softness. The durable Ndurance® outsole withstands prolonged wear on asphalt and pavement, while the standard width D fits most feet comfortably. Pair these sneakers with cargo pants, straight jeans, or a technical jacket. Over more than a century, New Balance has built a reputation as a brand that emphasizes comfort and meticulous craftsmanship.

New Balance 1906

A technological masterpiece that redefines modern street style - New Balance 1906

Are you searching for sneakers that combine a bold millennial aesthetic, maximum functionality, and the legacy of one of the most respected sports brands in the world? New Balance 1906R currently stands as the pinnacle of contemporary sneaker culture. This silhouette is not just another retro model; it is a sophisticated blend of running heritage and futuristic design that has taken over the streets of global metropolises. At Queens, we adore this shoe because it proves that a top-notch technical setup can look incredibly stylish with any outfit.

A glimpse into history: From 1906 to the modern “R”

The model name is not coincidental – the number 1906 directly refers to the year when William J. Riley founded the New Balance brand in Boston. The original silhouette first appeared in 2009 as a high-end running shoe for the most demanding athletes. It was an era when no expense was spared on technology or material layering. The current version, designated 1906R, made its comeback a few years ago and immediately became a hit due to the wave of interest in tech design and nostalgia for the early 2000s. New Balance has successfully taken the best from its archive and adapted it to the needs of today’s urban nomad.

Technical setup: Why are the 1906R so comfortable?

Under the hood of the New Balance 1906, you will find technologies that you would expect in professional athletic footwear. This is precisely why they are so popular for all-day wear:

  • N-ergy & ABZORB: This iconic duo in the midsole provides elite shock absorption. While ABZORB absorbs harsh impacts on concrete, the N-ergy system returns energy with every step you take.
  • N-lock system: Notice the detail at the laces – the lacing is integrated directly into the side logo “N”, which firmly and securely anchors the shoe to your foot.
  • Stability Web: A special TPU bridge under the arch of the shoe that prevents unwanted twisting (torsion) and provides support that you will appreciate after a full day on the move.
  • Acteva Lite: The midsole is made from lightweight foam that retains its shape, ensuring that you hardly feel the shoes on your feet.

How to wear New Balance 1906 and what to pair them with?

The 1906R model, with its complex and layered upper made of breathable mesh and synthetic panels, is the king of layered outfits. They pair wonderfully with wide track pants or technical cargo trousers featuring pockets that highlight their robust and functional character. If you prefer a classic look, team them with properly baggy jeans and an oversized hoodie – the silhouette of the shoe is bold enough to maintain balance with voluminous clothing.

For a more “clean” or summer look, combine them with high white socks and tech shorts. New Balance 1906R are not just sneakers; they are a statement about your taste and demands for quality. Choose your colorway at Queens and stay one step ahead!

Materials

TechnologyGORE-TEX®GORE-TEX®GORE-TEX® is the absolute king among waterproof materials and an uncompromising standard in the world of outdoor and urban fashion. It is an extremely thin technical membrane that contains more than 1.4 billion microscopic pores per square centimeter. These pores are 20,000 times smaller than a drop of water, yet 700 times larger than a water vapor molecule (sweat). The result? Rain, snow, and puddles have no chance of penetrating inside, while body moisture escapes freely. Your feet and body will remain completely dry and comfortable in any weather, from autumn downpours to winter slush. / Quick lacing systemQuick lacing systemThe Quicklace / Speed Lacing System is a technology that definitively eliminates the hassle of tying shoelaces and dealing with undone knots in the middle of the day. Instead of traditional laces, it uses thin yet incredibly strong cords (often made from Kevlar or polyester) with a sliding plastic lock (stopper). Simply pull, slide the slider, and you're done – the shoe tightens evenly around the entire foot in just one second. The excess cord can then be easily tucked away into the pocket on the tongue. This provides you with a clean techwear look and lightning-fast readiness to head out into the streets. / NlockNlockInnovative fixation system where the side straps in the shape of the "N" logo are directly connected to the lacing. As soon as you tighten the laces, the tension is transferred to the shoe's construction, which firmly and securely encircles the centre of the foot. This mechanism stabilizes the foot inside the shoe, minimizing movement and greatly increasing comfort and safety when walking or running.
UpperGore-texGore-texDesigned to provide maximum protection against water and wind while maintaining high breathability. The membrane effectively prevents the penetration of moisture from the outside while allowing sweat to wick away from the foot. As a result, the foot remains dry and comfortable even in challenging weather conditions. The GORE-TEX upper is the ideal choice for outdoor footwear where the emphasis is on functionality, durability and long-term comfort.
FootbedOrthoLite®OrthoLite®Premium technology of insoles with an open-cell structure, which ensures unparalleled comfort and breathability. Unlike conventional insoles, this foam does not compress during wear – it retains more than 95% of its original thickness and cushioning over time. Thanks to its structure, it allows air to circulate directly beneath the foot, keeping it cool and dry. Additionally, the insoles are enhanced with an antimicrobial treatment that effectively combats odor and bacteria, ensuring a healthy environment inside the shoe even during all-day wear.

MidsoleN-ergy cushioningN-ergy cushioningCushioning technology that is designed for maximum shock absorption and running comfort. It uses materials that adapt to the movement of the foot and provide optimal cushioning with every step, improving stability and reducing fatigue during long runs or intense activity.
SoleNdurance®Ndurance®A highly durable rubber compound developed by New Balance that is strategically placed in the areas of the sole with the greatest risk of wear. This technology has been designed to provide maximum durability even under extreme loads such as braking, rapid changes of direction or movement on abrasive surfaces (asphalt, concrete, tennis courts). Thanks to its specific formulation, it significantly extends the life of the entire shoe without negatively affecting the grip or flexibility of the sole. You will find Ndurance® especially in running, tennis and skate models where it is critically important that the sole does not wear out prematurely in the heel and toe area.

Whether it is a jacket, trousers, or sneakers, this construction prevents even a single drop of water from entering, even during heavy downpours, walking through deep puddles, or in slushy snow. Thanks to impermeable membranes and sealed seams, it creates an impenetrable shield against the elements while allowing the material inside to breathe freely. You can rely on maximum comfort and peace of mind without worrying about damp socks or cold clothing.

The Icon of Streetwear and Comfort Defining Urban Style - New Balance

If you seek the perfect balance between maximum comfort and uncompromising style, the brand New Balance is an absolute match for you. What began as a modest idea in Boston has transformed over the decades into one of the most sought-after lifestyle and streetwear brands in the world. At Queens, we offer you the freshest selection of sneakers and apparel that are currently shaping the fashion landscape.

Whether you are hunting for timeless classics, highly coveted retro running silhouettes, or the latest limited collaborations, New Balance in our portfolio represents the pinnacle of urban culture.

From Orthopedic Inserts to the Absolute King of the Sneaker Community

The brand's history began in 1906 under the name New Balance Arch Support Company. Founder William J. Riley was inspired by the perfect balance of chicken feet and designed a revolutionary flexible arch and orthopedic inserts. This deep emphasis on anatomical ergonomics and technical innovations (such as mixed gel inserts) remains in the brand's DNA to this day. New Balance also became a pioneer by being one of the few manufacturers to offer and still offers various widths of footwear for a perfectly fitting cut.

Over the years, however, what started as purely functional sports footwear has become a street phenomenon. The brand achieved the impossible: it connected the world of elite athletes, subcultural communities, hip-hop enthusiasts, and fashion purists. Today, New Balance is no longer just "dad's garden shoes" (although the brand itself has masterfully defined the aesthetic of dad shoes). It is a status symbol of modern streetwear.

Premium Quality: A Legend Named "Made in"

What elevates New Balance to an entirely different level compared to its competitors is their uncompromising commitment to premium craftsmanship. The New Balance Made in USA and Made in UK lines are synonymous with luxury in the sneaker world. While most global production has moved to Asia, these specific collections are still manufactured in factories in New England (USA) and Flimby (UK).

When purchasing models from these lines, you acquire a product with a high degree of handcrafting, made from the finest leather, premium suede, and breathable mesh. For collectors and sneaker enthusiasts at Queens, models from the Made in division are the absolute holy grail, maturing like fine wine with age and wear.
